June 25, 2025
There are so many things coming up in the next few days that I’m taking the space here to let you know about them!
The first is that the first Community Concert of the year will be held on Friday evening, June 27, at 6:00 pm. [Editor’s note: This has been postponed to July 25.] I’ll be sharing an hour’s worth of music, most of them song-along songs, but with a few of my own mixed in. Be in the church sanctuary on the 27th or enjoy the live stream at the church’s website, holycrosshilo.com.
On Sunday, June 29, I’ll share a collection of stories and photos from my sabbatical in the Building of Faith following worship. It’s a pot-luck lunch as well, so bring a dish to share and a good appetite! I look forward to sharing some of the refreshment I found on sabbatical with all of you.
And… on Tuesday, July 1, we have a special treat. J. P. Thoma has worked with the Board of Deacons to schedule a special concert by classical guitarist William Jenks who, rather like a kolea, migrates between Hawai’i Island and the West Coast. The program, which will include a duet with J. P., begins at 7:00 pm. There will be a free-will offering for the support of Church of the Holy Cross.
If that seems like a lot of activity in a few days, it is! We have always been a church where things happen. The COVID pandemic depressed quite a bit of that, and it refreshes me to see more activities emerge again. Concerts, pickleball, Bible studies, Confirmation classes, Vacation Bible School: our summer is full of these, and full of the joy of being together as Christ’s Church.
See you at some of these!
In peace,
Pastor Eric
