Pastor’s Corner: Tiny Grains

August 9, 2023
Tiny grains of sand make up a beach.
Small acts of kindness make up a community – at least, the kind of community I’d like to live in.
So much of the life of faith takes place in brief encounters of our day. It’s the “How are you?” and “Have a good day,” exchanged with the clerk in the grocery store, the encouraging smile given to a visitor on the sidewalk along the Bayfront, and the soft “I love you” spoken to the grandchild on their way to school.
It’s the choices made to ensure a healthy diet for ourselves and members of our family, balanced by one or two sweet things to echo the joy of living. It’s the care we take to drive safely or to look both ways before crossing a street. It’s the decision to support businesses that treat their workers and their customers and their neighbors well. It’s the presence at the soccer game or the concert or the Community Sing (Friday at 6 pm this week!) that revives our own hearts.
It’s the prayers we raise and the curses we swallow. It’s the gifts we give and the grace with which we receive gifts. It’s the tender greetings and the farewells that promise “we’ll meet again.” It’s the learning and the teaching and the doing and the resting.
Small acts of kindness make up a community.
Tiny grains of sand make up a beach.
In peace,
Pastor Eric
