Pastor’s Corner: Worth Staying Away From

November 30, 2022

I can safely assure you that, vaccinated or not, COVID is worth staying away from.

I don’t actually know when or where I picked up the virus. Incubation periods vary enough to make that difficult to determine. I do know that once symptoms hit late on a Tuesday evening, I had no doubt that it was COVID. When a home test confirmed it the next morning, I was not at all surprised.

Fortunately, I have had both the primary series of vaccinations and regular “booster” shots as well. They didn’t prevent me from developing the illness, but they certainly kept it from getting more serious. I was aware pretty much the entire time I had it that more severe symptoms were a distinct possibility. I am very grateful to have escaped them.

It also hung on a long time. I stayed isolated primarily to avoid infecting others, but COVID has affected my stamina during the day. I get tired more quickly and more easily. Even though that is improving, it is the most persistent of the COVID symptoms I’ve experienced.

This disease is still around, my friends. It takes a toll on those who come down with it, and I’m painfully aware of the ways it affects others who are not ill. People relying on certain activities from me had to find other solutions. We do that all the time, of course, for friends, neighbors, and co-workers who are ill, but it’s rarely easy and never fun.

And, of course, those of us who contract this illness assume the ability to pass it to others.

All in all, I recommend avoiding this if you possibly can. Make sure your vaccination is current and wear masks in public. Pray for those who are ill and for those who care for them.

Blessings to you,

Pastor Eric
