Pastor’s Corner: Find Ways to Feed Your Soul

May 25, 2022
This continues to be a very stressful time, friends. The pandemic we thought had ended – not once, but more than once – has not ended. We gather for worship but, let’s face it, it’s not quite as we had hoped. We’re not singing together, we’re not gathering periodically to enjoy one another’s company, we’re missing some who rightly choose not to risk their health in a big group.
The world was never as we wished it, but it’s so much further from our wishes that it takes a toll on our hearts and our spirits.
This is, once again, a time to look into our own needs and our own souls to find the ways we can strengthen our spirits. Do you miss singing? Watch the live stream of worship and sing along at home. Do you want to be with people but you still want to sing? Come to worship on Sunday, and play the recorded service to sing along later in the week. Do you want to share a meal with a friend? Pack up a basket and find a table outdoors somewhere. It will do your hearts good.
Try calling the folks you’ve been missing. Try taking a solo walk on the beach or in a garden. Try reading the Scriptures at a new time of day. Try making art. Try looking at art. Try listening to music. Try doing something kind for a friend or neighbor. Try doing something kind for a stranger.
Try the things that seem likely to feed your soul, even ones that never have before, and find something that helps you.
It’s still a very rough world to live in. Mercifully, we live in it with the constant companionship of a loving God.
With aloha,
Pastor Eric
