Call to Worship: based on Psalm 67                                                 Gloria Kobayashi

Leader: May God be gracious to us and bless us. May God’s face shine upon us.
People: May God’s way be known on Earth, God’s saving power among all nations.

Leader: Let the people of the nations praise the Lord, our God.
People: Let them be glad and sing for joy at the guidance of our God.

Leader: The earth has brought forth fruit and grain. God, our God, has blessed us.
People: May God continue to bless us and everyone, so that God is praised over all the earth.

Invocation: based on Revelation 21:10, 22-22:5                           Gloria Kobayashi

Be our light, O God; let your glory be our light. May it shine in our streets and in our homes, may it shine in the forests and on the mountains, may it shine in the depths of the sea. Let your glory shine like crystal, crystal of the River of Life. Let it shine in the hearts of your created people; let it shine in the souls we open to you. Amen.

Scripture                                                                                                    Gloria Kobayashi

Acts 16:9-15
During the night Paul had a vision: there stood a man of Macedonia pleading with him and saying, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us.’ When he had seen the vision, we immediately tried to cross over to Macedonia, being convinced that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.We set sail from Troas and took a straight course to Samothrace, the following day to Neapolis, and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the districtof Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city for some days. On the sabbath day we went outside the gate by the river, where we supposed there was a place of prayer; and we sat down and spoke to the women who had gathered there. A certain woman named Lydia, a worshipper of God, was listening to us; she was from the city of Thyatira and a dealer in purple cloth. The Lord opened her heart to listen eagerly to what was said by Paul. When she and her household were baptized, she urged us, saying, ‘If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come and stay at my home.’ And she prevailed upon us.

John 5:1-9
After this there was a festival of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate there is a pool, called in HebrewBeth-zatha, which has five porticoes. In these lay many invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed. One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had been there a long time, he said to him, ‘Do you want to be made well?’ The sick man answered him, ‘Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; and while I am making my way, someone else steps down ahead of me.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Stand up, take your mat and walk.’ At once the man was made well, and he took up his mat and began to walk.

Now that day was a sabbath.

Sermon: By the Water                                                                           Rev. Eric S. Anderson

Pastoral Prayer                                                                                       Rev. Eric S. Anderson

Please join me in the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Call to Offering                                                                                        Gloria Kobayashi

Life on this planet relies upon the waters that God created: flowing water, still water, water in waves, water in spray. There is also a source of life in the flowing of God’s spirit: flowing spirit, still spirit, spirit in waves, spirit in spray. Give thanks in your offering today for all the water of life. Whether you share your gift here in the church today, through a gift online, or via an envelope in the mail, God is praised in your generosity. Let the offering now be received.

Offertory: Meditation—David Lasky                                               Kayleen Yuda

Doxology
Praise God from whom all blessings flow,

Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost – Amen

Offertory Prayer                                                                                     Gloria Kobayashi

We praise your goodness, O God, beside the waters that flow down the slopes of our mountains, above the waters that wash our shores, amidst the constant flowing of your spirit. Bless these gifts by your Holy Spirit, we pray. Amen.
