What is happening during Holy Week?

Mostly, I hope that what is happening is that you find your spirits emptied of the things that burden them, and filled with the things that revive them.

Palm Sunday is this coming Sunday! The live stream of worship will include music for the day of Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem. I encourage you to fetch some greenery into your homes for the day. You may not be able to march about your living room, but let’s wave leafy branches in praise. Worship starts at 10:00 am.

On Maundy Thursday, April 14, the worship live stream enters the shadows. We will offer an online version of the classic Tenebrae, reading Scripture accounts of the night of Jesus’ arrest and trial. As we do, candles will be snuffed and the sanctuary will get steadily darker. At the last, we will pray the Lord’s prayer amidst the darkness. This service will include Holy Communion; it begins at 7:00 pm.

On Friday, April 15, I will once again share Scripture and poetry for Good Friday in a video premiere at noon based upon the Seven Last Words of Jesus.

On Saturday, April 16, we invite the keiki to come to church and decorate Easter eggs. We’ll gather in J’s Café beginning at 9:00 am. Please wear clothes that you and your parents can bear to get a little stained – dye does fly – and remember to wear a face mask.

Early Sunday morning, we invite the young people to return to church for an Easter egg hunt. We’ll meet at 8:30 am in the lounge, enjoy an Easter story, and then go see where those eggs have been hidden.

Easter Sunday Worship will once again be via live stream beginning at 10:00 am, including some special music as well as favorite Easter hymns. Praise God! Christ is risen!
