Online Worship April 25, 2021
Fourth Sunday of Easter

Rev. Eric S. Anderson, Pastor

WE GATHER TO WORSHIP GOD

Welcome                                                                                 Rev. Eric S. Anderson

Prelude: La Tromba—Couperin, arr. Biggs                              Kayleen Yuda

Call to Worship: based on 1 John 3:16-24                               Woody Kita

Leader: We know love by this, that Christ laid down his life for us.
All: And we ought to lay down our lives for one another.

Leader: Children of God, let us love not just in words or speech, but in truth and action.
All: By this we will know that we are from the truth.

Leader: How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and refuses to help a brother or sister in need?
All: This was Christ’s commandment: to believe in his grace, and to love one another as he loves us. Let us worship God!

Invocation: based on John 10:11-18                                        Woody Kita

Good Shepherd, you laid down your life for us. You did not run away from the predatory viciousness of humanity. You stayed and claimed us as your own. May we rejoice as you embrace others into your flock, your fold, your family. May we rejoice in your call, your kindness, and your constant love. Amen.

Hymn Duet #479: God Is My Shepherd                                   Eric Anderson

Scripture                                                                                 Woody Kita

Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures;
he leads me beside still waters;
    he restores my soul.
He leads me in right paths
    for his name’s sake.

 Even though I walk through the darkest valley,
    I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff—
    they comfort me.

 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    my whole life long.

Acts 4:5-12
The next day their rulers, elders, and scribes assembled in Jerusalem, with Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. When they had made the prisoners stand in their midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, if we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed, let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead. This Jesus is

‘the stone that was rejected by you, the builders;
    it has become the cornerstone.’

There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved.”

Story/Sermon: Look! It’s a Cornerstone                                   Rev. Eric S. Anderson

Pastoral Prayer                                                                       Rev. Eric S. Anderson

Please join me in the Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come.  Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Instrumental Anthem: We Have Come Into His House—Ballinger, arr. Boch
                                                                                                Kayleen Yuda

Call to Offering:                                                                      Woody Kita
We invite you to an offering. The world is filled with examples of power, might, and strength. Amidst these forces, however, are the actions of one or two, combined with one or two more, that together accomplish great things. Let your offering, however large, become part of a gathered effort to bring more goodness into God’s world. Please send your offering through the mail in an envelope to 440 West Lanikaula Street, Hilo, Hawai’i, 96720, or give online at holycrosshilo.com/donate. Let us pray together:

Offertory Prayer
You confound us over and over again, O God, however wise we may think we are. Surprise us once more in your blessing of these gifts. May they accomplish more toward the triumph of love and justice than we could ever imagine. Amen.
