Call to Worship: based on Romans 8:12-25 Gloria Kobayashi
Leader: God has not made us slaves who fear,
People: God has made us children who love.
Leader: When we turn to God as children of a loving parent
People: the Holy Spirit bears witness that we are children of God.
Leader: The creation has waited with eager longing to see the children of God.
People: May all creation, and may we ourselves, see the fulfillment of God’s hopes and dreams in us and in our world.
Invocation: Based on Genesis 28:10-19a
Gracious God, we remember Jacob who stole from his brother and deceived his father. We remember that he used a stone for a pillow. We remember that he dreamed of heavenly beings, of a holy presence, and a divine promise. “Sure the LORD is in this place,” said Jacob, “and I did not know it!” Be with us in this place, O God. We do not need dreams, but we do need assurance that wherever we might be today or any time this week we are in the House of God, embraced and comforted and loved. Amen.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
Instrumental Anthem: Suite Bergamasque — Debussy Kanako Okita
Lay Reader — Invitation to the Offering
Those who are gathered here placed your offering in the calabash as you entered. If you didn’t happen to do that and have a gift to give, there will be a calabash in place as you depart. Those worshiping at home can give via mail at the address on your screen, or online at holycrosshilo.com/donate. However you are worshiping today, whatever means you use to contribute, and whatever you believe to be the value of your gift, know this: God embraces you for your generous heart.
Let us pray:
Prayer of Dedication
Gracious God, you are always with us, no matter our location on the globe, and no matter the state of our spirit. In your presence may we always find comfort. Now, in your presence, we offer you these gifts. By them may others receive and recognize your grace and your blessings. By them, may we be renewed in our compassion and our love. Amen.
