Pastor’s Corner: Little Joys

April 1, 2020
I hope you are finding the little joys in your days.
With the cool nights we have been having, there is a physical joy in snuggling beneath the covers. The scent of coffee brewing fills me with delight. Hot toast and jam wondrously combine sweet coolness with warm earthiness. Bird song chirps lightly in my ears. Flowers bloom their vibrant colors hardly noticing the presence of people like me.
There is delight in the voice of a loved one or a friend. There is delight in the familiar sight of that worn place that shows where you sit in your favorite chair. There is delight in the aroma of cut grass. There is delight in the tart sweetness of lilikoi. There is delight in the sensation of water trailing over the skin.
I could go on and on.
I’m sure you could, too.
Separated as we are, we will remember the things we miss. We will remember the places we can not go and the people we can not see. We will remember the things we can not do and the blessings we can not receive. We will remember these things. It will make us sad.
Finding the little joys will not prevent the sadness. I will give us a place to go from the sadness. I miss seeing you and I find joy in the sight of a rainbow. I miss hearing your voice and I find joy in the patter of the rain. I miss tasting your special recipe (you each have your own) and I find joy in the chocolate covered macadamia. I miss the fragrance of your favorite tea and I find joy in the scent of my jasmine tea. I miss the firm grasp of your handshake and I find joy in the smooth surface of the kitchen sink.
I could go on and on.
You may go on and on, too. It will be good for all of us.
With aloha,
Pastor Eric
