Church of the Holy Cross in the Pandemic

UPDATE: We will resume in-person worship on Sunday, April 24, 2022, and will continue to stream the live service over the Internet. Click here to learn more.

In accordance with the best advice of health professionals and the directives of Governor David Ige, Church of the Holy Cross will not hold in-person worship services until May 3, 2020. The church office will continue to be open to respond to telephone calls and emails, and to coordinate support services as needed in the coming month.

We will offer regular worship experiences via live video stream over the Internet. The upcoming service will be linked from our website at www.holycrosshilo.com. If you are not able to “tune in” during the service time itself, the video will be available to watch at any time following.

We have changed our publication schedule for The Messenger to weekly during this period so that those without Internet access can still hear regularly from our church. As with this issue, we will lean toward providing prayers and devotional material. We hope it will aid your personal spiritual practice.

The number of people diagnosed with COVID-19 disease is still low on Hawai’i Island and it has not yet directly affected anyone in our congregation. The isolation measures, however, may become a burden. If you need support, please call the church office or Pastor Eric directly. We will pray with you, listen to you, work to arrange grocery deliveries to you, or attend to other concerns as best we can.

We may need to keep our bodies separate in this time, but we do not face this time alone. We face it with one another, and we face it accompanied by the loving presence of God.

Upcoming Streaming Music

Pastor Eric has announced weekly “Music from the Church of the Holy Cross.” He’ll sing one song from our sanctuary on YouTube live stream. Learn more at holycrosshilo.com, or check the YouTube channel directly at youtube.com/esandersonucc.

In addition, he will perform live one-hour concerts during our Community Sing times on the second and fourth Friday at 6:00 pm. The first performance will be March 27, and the next on April 10.

Bible Study and Prayer via Zoom

Pastor Eric will also lead Bible Study via Zoom video teleconference during this time. Please call or email the church office to let us know what times will be good for you, and the email address to which we should send the connection information. We hope to begin either this week or next week.
