Help Erase Medical Debt this Tuesday
In October, UCC leaders announced
that 5,888 families on the South Side of Chicago had had their medical
debt forgiven through the work of churches and agencies of the United
Church of Christ. The church was able to purchase and retire $5.3
million for just $38,000. The UCC has called for a national effort to
retire even more medical indebtedness with a “Giving Tuesday” campaign
with a goal of $50,000.
Gifts to this Giving Tuesday campaign will be used to erase debt of
people living below the poverty level, who are facing insolvency, and
for whom medical debt is 5% or more of annual income. The goal level
will forgive approximately $5,000,000.
