Pastor’s Corner: Lent is Here

March 6, 2019

Lent is here.

There’s no need to look busy.

There are and will be plenty of opportunities to do so. You can download our new Lenten devotional (at least the first volume), “Open the Heart,” below. That can keep you busy for a time each day. “Ideas for Lenten Disciplines” are available to pick up at the church or at holycrosshilo.com, with all sorts of ideas for an active season. Our regular Bible Studies are running. We’ve added a five-week series on “Assembling the Bible” as well (Thursdays at . And, of course, there’s always Sunday worship.

You can look as busy as you like.

You don’t have to be busy at all.

It really depends, doesn’t it? Where is your soul? Where is your spirit? Do you need to reinforce some touchstones, find new engagement with the faith, make an effort to draw nearer to God? If busy will do that, then get busy!

But if, instead, you need the quiet time, the silent time, the sit-with-God time, then shed some of this other business and busy-ness, and let your spirit rest with God.

Lent is here, a season to prepare for joy.

Prepare as you may and as you must: Easter is coming.

With aloha,

Pastor Eric
