Lenten Season 2018
Lent is a season of 40 days (not counting Sundays) beginning on Ash Wednesday (Feb 14 this year) and ending on the day before Easter (April 1).
Lent is a time of repentance, fasting and preparation for Easter, the 40 days representing the time Jesus spent in the wilderness enduring temptation and preparing to begin his ministry. During Lent, we symbolically and spiritually enter the wilderness with Christ to prepare ourselves for the resurrection of Easter.
If you are searching for ideas for Lenten disciplines, we may be able to help. Church of the Holy Cross has a short handout for you that answer questions such as:
- How long is Lent?
- Should I give something up for Lent?
- Should I take something on for Lent?
- How do I make it work for me?
- Where does Lent come from?
Whatever you take on or give up, let it reflect yourself and your spirituality. Connect it to God, and to your anticipation of the Easter celebration. Let it be something you truly love, either as a devotional discipline in setting aside, or as mission work in taking up.
This is yours; it is between you and God.
You may pick up this hand out directly from Church of the Holy Cross or contact our office at holycrosshilor@hawaii.rr.com and we will email or mail you a copy.
May your Lenten season be filled with blessings.
