What I’m Thinking: Hope
This week’s gospel reading from Mark 13:24-37 sounds so much like what we heard in Matthew’s gospel a couple weeks back: Be ready! But now we’re on the first Sunday of Advent, the Sunday of Hope, which has me thinking about what hope is.
Here’s a transcript:
I’m thinking this week about the thirteenth chapter of Mark. In some ways it feels like we’ve just gone back a couple of weeks to the passage in Matthew about being ready, because that is what Jesus was telling his followers.
But this time readiness comes on the first Sunday of Advent, the Sunday of Hope, so I’d like to give you a little preview of what our call to worship will look like.
Because hope is a seed that has not yet sprouted.
Hope is also the shoot that rises from the earth but does not yet bear a flower.
Hope is the flower that has not yet become the fruit.
Hope is the fruit that bears that seed for the next plant, flower, and fruit.
That’s what I’m thinking! I’m curious to hear about what you’re thinking, so please leave your thoughts in the comment section below. I’d love to hear from you.
