Hurricane Harvey Relief
Church of the Holy Cross will join with UCC churches throughout the US in offering aid to the thousands who have been displaced, injured, or impoverished by the floods of Hurricane Harvey. Zach Wolgemuth, Executive for UCC Disaster Ministries, believes recovery will take at least five years. “UCC Disaster Ministries has always walked with the communities for the duration,” he said, “focusing on holistic community recovery for the most vulnerable by filling gaps in services and helping rebuild house and home. In order to carry out such a response we are going to need everyone’s support now and throughout the next several years.”
You can support the UCC effort with an online gift now; the simplest way to find the giving form is to start at ucc.org/disaster. We will collect a special offering during worship on Sunday, September 3rd, and Sunday, September 10th. You can also send gifts to the office; note that they are for Hurricane Harvey relief.
As Acting Hawai`i Conference Minister Iese Tuuaa says: “In times like this and through our generous gifts we show not only our care for one another, but also the healing and helping hand of God who is ‘our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble’ (Psalm 46:1).”
