Special Worship May 14, 2017

Dr. Saeko Hayashi, manager of Public Information and Outreach for the Subaru Telescope on Mauna Kea, was the special guest speaker for our May 14 worship service.  After 19 years of living in our community and being a vital part of our church, Saeko is bidding farewell to Hilo for a little while, and is moving back to Japan.  She shared what she’s learned while living in Hawaii and raising her two sons, Takeru and Wataru, who are now both in college (in Japan and Reno, NV).

Yes, May 14 was a very special service.  In addition to being Mother’s Day and the Festival of the Christian Home, we also celebrated Graduate Recognition and Sunday School Teacher Appreciation Day.  As part of the Festival of the Christian Home, we dedicated the Bath Housewarming Kits for the Neighborhood Place of Puna.  They joyously made two trips to pick up thirteen laundry basket-sized kits last week!  Thank you to all who donated to this project in support of our neighbors.

Thank you to the Boards of Christian Education and Stewardship and Mission for coordinating these activities.
