Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, Nov 22
The Interfaith Communities in Action (ICIA) annual Community Thanksgiving Celebration for 2016 will be held at Church of the Holy Cross on Tuesday, November 22, at 7 PM. The program will feature presentations of music, readings, and meditations from the wide variety of faith communities who make up ICIA.
The theme of this year’s celebration is “To Make a Home.” ICIA, of which our church is a founding member, is working with other faith groups, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and other providers in an interfaith effort to significantly reduce family homelessness in East Hawai`i. While the theme of the celebration certainly reflects this, it also reaches beyond concerns about homelessness to broader questions of what we yearn for or aspire to in making a home—or, indeed, what we mean when we speak of “home.”
As in previous years, offerings of non-perishable food are welcome and will be donated to the Hawai`i Food Basket. A separate financial offering will also be taken to support an Emergency Housing Fund as part of the interfaith coalition’s efforts. The fund will be used to help families that are working toward getting into housing to obtain the required birth certificates and state IDs, and/or for emergency housing vouchers for families in transition.
Join us on November 22 for a great evening’s entertainment, and know that you’re also helping make our community an even better place to live.
