Updated – PHOTOS added – Walk to End Alzheimer’s – September 26, 2015

Mark your calendars! The annual “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” has been scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Queen Lili`uokalani Gardens. Check in time is 7 am and the walk starts at 8 am. “The end of Alzheimer’s starts with YOU” is the theme for the walk.  The Board of Stewardship and Mission invites you to participate with us in this important fundraising project to raise funds to support the work of the Alzheimer’s Association in Hilo. Our church has sponsored a team for several years and has won prizes for the amount of donations gathered. We would like to continue this tradition! Please let me know if you would like to participate as we try to start the Walk together as a team.
More than 3,000 community members on Hawaii Island suffer from some form of dementia and many more exhibit increasing forgetfulness. The Association provides free services to the community throughout the year counseling family members, providing information and referrals, as well as regularly scheduled presentations. Chris Ridley, program coordinator for the Association, meets monthly with our Caregivers Support Group held in the Building of Faith on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 10 to noon.
Forms for participation in the Walk are now available. There are 3 different forms: 1) a registration form for those who would like to participate in the Walk, 2) a form for those walking to keep track of the donations received to sponsor your Walk, and 3) a form to make a donation for the Walk. If you would like to just make a donation, anyone of us walking would gladly accept your support. The forms are available at the entry to the sanctuary.

16 members and friends from Church of the Holy Cross braved the rain and wind for the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” on Saturday, September 26th at Liliuokalani Park. A huge mahalo to Eileen, Kay, Connie and James, Barbara, Bob, Michi, Sets, Mary Ann, Gloria, Cindy, Bev and her friend Sandy, Merle and Wilfred, and Anne for representing the church.

Thank you, too, to the members and friends who donated to the Association to help support those affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This year teams were not recognized, but know that we were one of the bigger groups participating with much energy and determination! Thank you all for supporting this project!

The Church of the Holy Cross team joined others braving the weather at the Walk this year! Our church’s team tallied the second highest amount of pledges and donations for the 2015 walk!
