2015 Annual Prevent Suicide Hawai`i Conference

The 2015 Annual Prevent Suicide Hawai‘i Conference – “E Mālama Ola (Caring for Life)” – will take place on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort on Hawaiʻi Island. There will also be pre- (Thursday, April 29) and post-conference  (Friday, May 1) workshops.

Some sobering statistics: suicide is the leading cause of injury death in the State of Hawaiʻi.  One of our local community members takes their life every two days.  Hawaiʻi’s youth have one of the highest rates of depression and suicidal ideation in the nation.

The goal of the Conference is to:

    • increase awareness of the incidence of suicide in Hawaii
    • bring together advocates, educators, policymakers, and health professionals around the issue of suicide prevention
    • foster educational resources
    • equip care-givers
    • provide a forum for discussion and learning
    • bring help and hope to those who have survived the loss of a loved one
