Lenten Season 2015

Lent begins February 18 – Ash Wednesday.

At the conclusion of this week’s Wednesday Bible Stud (February 18), which begins at 9:30 am, we will have a brief service of prayer and ashes, for those who wish to receive them. Come at 10:45 am if you are not able to come to Bible Study.

Begin the season of Lent with a time of prayer and reflection.

Lenten devotional booklets are available in the church sancutary and in the pastor’s study. “Led by Christ: Action Begins in the Heart” is designed for families but also works well for adults around the central question ” As Christians, how do our lives reflect the saving love of our redeemer?” The author, Kathleen Finley, served as a visiting instructor in Religious Studies of Gonzaga University, Spokane, WA.

Lenten Covenant

This year, instead of giving up something, Pastor Mary suggests taking on a spiritual discipline: daily scripture reading and prayer. She invites you to read a chapter from an Old Testament book and a chapter from a New Testament book each day. We will pray for one another and Church of the Holy Cross, UCC. You will receive a list of other persons in the covenant and their requests about how to pray for them. If you miss a day do NOT read twice as much the next day, to guard against discouragement. Forgive yourself for missing a day and begin again. If you need more suggestions or have questions, please contact Pastor Mary.

Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, March 29

Worship service at 10 am will begin with celebration and a parade of palms. We will hear the story of the final days of Jesus’ life.

Maundy Thursday, April 2

The service of Holy Communion will take place in the evening (7 pm)  in the church sanctuary. This quiet, reflective, service commemorates when Jesus shared the bread and cup with his disciples at the Passover. The choir will sing, and other congregations who worship on our campus will join in worship with us.

Sunday School families and friends are invited to color eggs for the Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday. Meet in J’s Cafe (former kitchen) at 9 am with an old t-shirt or apron to protect your clothing. A light lunch will be served.
